UHC is committed to providing comprehensive and inclusive care for transgender and gender non-conforming students.
Students who would like to meet with a mental health provider to discuss gender identity may contact Counseling and Psychiatric Services at 706-542-2273 and ask to schedule a screening appointment with a CAPS clinician, including our Gender and Sexuality Services Coordinator Shannon Bowles, PhD (she/her/hers). During this appointment, the CAPS clinician will assess your needs and make recommendations for next steps.
Students who would like to meet with a medical provider to discuss hormone therapy may contact Medical Clinic Blue at 706-542-8654 and ask to schedule a 40-minute initial consultation appointment with physician Jenny Wares, MD (she/her/hers). It is not required that you see your UHC primary care provider before scheduling this appointment with Dr. Wares, and your primary care clinic does not have to be Medical Clinic Blue in order to schedule this appointment. While a letter of readiness for hormones ultimately is required (this requirement will be discussed with you during your first visit), it is not necessary that you have this letter or necessarily be ready to initiate hormone therapy when scheduling with Dr. Wares.
