#BeWellUGA at Home: Make Time for Self-Care
Try these strategies for self-care while you are staying home.
- Set boundaries with social media. Be intentional to seek out trusted sources and positive messages. Take breaks away from technology as needed.
- Continue to communicate with support systems. Who is one person you look forward to connecting with this week?
- Change up your environment while social distancing. Take a walk or spend some time outside.
- Play an old school board game, read a book, watch a movie, call a friend, and set routines that are manageable.
- The UGA library has a number of books available online. The public library also offers lots of free books and magazines through the RBdigital app.
- Use this time to be present: download a meditation app or search a guided meditation to follow along. Take some deep breaths.
- Listen to your body. Rest, disconnect, stay hydrated, and grab a healthy snack to provide much needed fuel for your body and mind.
- Color, journal, or make a dream list of things you plan to do in the future.
- Enjoy some hot tea or another warm drink.
- Reconnect with music you haven’t listened to in a while.
- More free time? Learn a new skill, like baking bread or making quick pickles. Low on supplies? Try a website like Supercook which will suggest recipes based on the ingredients you have on hand.
- Keep your routines and stay connected. Pick a specific time and choose a self-care activity to do with others. Then, video chat or text about your experience.
