NUTRITION SERVICES
The mission of Nutrition Services at the University Health Center is to provide nutrition education and medical nutrition consultation for the University of Georgia student community. Nutrition services provides reliable, evidence-based nutrition information to guide students in achieving a balanced, healthy approach to dietary and eating issues. Registered dietitians or registered dietitian nutritionists (RD/ RDN) are legally protected, just like registered nurses and medical doctors. Anyone can call themselves as a nutritionist (people on social media, your friend/ coworker, parent, etc.,) but unlike most self-proclaimed nutritionists, dietitians must obtain a Bachelor’s or Masters related in nutrition, complete a dietetic internship, and pass the registered dietitian exam to earn the title that allows them to practice in their field. RDs also must complete continuous education programs and sessions to maintain their credentials. Most states, including Georgia, require dietitians to be licensed if they provide nutrition counseling. When seeking nutrition services, always verify the provider is a registered dietitian (or registered dietitian nutritionist) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is licensed in the state they are practicing. Each of the Registered Dietitans practicing at UHC maintain this licensure.
